Hunting In The Squaw Lake Area
During autumn, you’ll have a hard time deciding what to do next. Deer, Duck, Ruffed Grouse and Bear hunters can all find a good spot to pursue their favorite passion.

Located in the heart of the Chippewa National Forest, there are hundreds of miles of public trails that can easily be accessed by visiting hunters along with thousands of acres of Itasca County land that is open to public hunting.
The waterfowl hunting in the fall of the year can be very productive at times. Between big waters and plenty of small back waters to hunt, it is what we consider the best time of year for this area. The owner, Cory, is an avid duck, deer and grouse hunter and can point you in the right direction if needed assistance.
As the late owner, Bruce Leino, would say, “Arrange your decoys to make it as easy as possible for them to land where you want them to land. Use decoys to crowd water where you don’t want ducks to land. And offer ducks an invitation into gun range by creating open landing sites within easy shooting range. You do this by considering the wind direction.” This is a good rule of thumb to hunt by.
Walking the area trails for grouse is a fantastic way to bag a great meal, but it’s a good way to scout for deer too. Once you’re familiar with the territory, you’ll want to come back to Squaw Lake several times, every season.
